BUDE-Stratton Town Council has announced two vacancies for councillors; one in the Bude Ward and one in the Poughill and Stratton Ward.

This is as a result of the non-attendance at council meetings for a period of more than six months by Jerry Blatchford and Keith Marshall, the council has advised.

Under Section 87(2) of the Local Government Act 1972 they are, therefore, automatically disqualified.

By-elections will be held to fill the vacancies if ten electors from each of the wards give notice in writing to the Deputy Returning Office by June 8 asking for an election.

If fewer than the minimum number of written requests for an election are received for either vacancy then the town council will have to fill the vacancy by co-option.
