TWO siblings have completed their half-term challenge to walk the length of Cornwall along the coast path to raise money for cancer sufferers.
Samuel Jennings, 14 and his sister Poppy Jennings, 11, from Bude, wanted to raise money for 18-year-old Talan Penny and three-year-old Benny Bennett, who are both undergoing treatment for rare forms of cancer.
Samuel and Poppy’s walk — 141 miles in length — was also in aid of CLIC Sargent — a cancer charity for children and young people.
They also arranged a raffle and invited friends and family to join the last leg from Crackington to Bude.
The pair walked as far as 22 miles and over eight hours nonstop in a day. They had to walk 16.4 km of vertical climbing — nearly twice the height of Mount Everest — during their mammoth trek.
They were accompanied to Bude by Talan, his mother Sarah Penny and sister, Benny’s mother Natalie Bennett, Bude Coastguards, Widemouth Task Force, Bude Mouse, the legendary Vicko (Pete Vickery), and around 100 friends and family, plus a BBC news crew.
Samuel and Poppy expressed thanks to all the businesses who donated for the raffle, Trelawny Tearooms, who kindly provided lunch for the walkers from Crackington, and the Brendon Arms, who provided refreshments for the walkers from Widemouth.
They also extended thanks to the many businesses who allowed them to keep collection tins in their shops and everyone who kindly sponsored them and gave them such encouragement along the way.
After the raffle, which alone made £700, Samuel and Poppy were given presents by Sarah Penny and Natalie Bennett as a thank you.
Their father Paul Jennings said: “They both said they feel so lucky growing up in Bude and how people help each other out and they wanted to do their bit. They have currently raised over £2,000.
“Anyone who’d like to can do so online http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/samuelscycle or in charity boxes in many of the shops in Bude.”
