The chairman of Bude and Stratton Royal British Legion (RBL) has resigned amid an ongoing row over the placement of a Pride flag.

In a statement, David Worth, the now-former chair of Bude RBL, blamed Bude Pride Education and members of Bude-Stratton Town Council for his resignation.

He also made a number of claims against the individuals, with Bude Pride Education previously claiming that local members of the Royal British Legion were behind the removal of a pride flag during armed forces weekend.

In the statement, Mr Worth said that despite his resignation, he would continue fundraising, and will take charge of the Poppy Appeal again this year, hoping to raise £20,000.

He added that he would continue with fundraising for the armed forces community and veterans in need.

Thanking those who had sent him messages of support, Mr Worth added that now he had resigned he could "say what he likes, when he likes" and that he aimed to stand for Bude-Stratton Town Council in the future.

Bude Pride Education said: "Bude Pride Education exists to support the young LGBTQ+ people in our small but rural town - where it is difficult to grow up being queer. We welcomed the recent apology from the Bude Stratton Town Council regarding the Pride Flag being removed and will engage in the review in due course."
