BUDE Parkhouse Patchwork Group held their biannual exhibition at the Parkhouse Centre from June 1 to 3.
Well over 50 pieces of work were on display, from quilts to bags, to cushions and dolls, table runners and pictures; as always the standard was very high.
Visitors expressed their interest in a wide range of exhibits through their selections for the Visitors’ Choice, which was narrowly won by Jeanette Orr with her appliqued quilt ‘A Florentine Fantasy’. Jo Colwill of Cowslip donated the winning prize.
The Chairlady’s Challenge this year was to create a quilt to reflect the season you were born in and was won by Caroline Miller, with her reflections of autumn.
In second place was Jane Wiles with ‘shades of winter’ while Joan Lashbrooke came third with her appliqued snowdrops. The prizes were donated by Jo Hendy of Villavin Crafts.
The group all contributed to the creation of the raffle quilt, a log cabin design made in beautiful batik fabrics.
Linda Pickard won the quilt. A second raffle prize, a log cabin table runner was won by Mand from Barnstaple Hospital. The third raffle prize was a cushion, also of a log cabin design, and that was won by Maggie Colwill.
The raffle quilt was a huge success and made in excess of £1,600 to be donated to the Acute Stroke Ward at Barnstaple Hospital.
Julia Oke arranged a most interesting display on the stage of ‘Our Favourite Things’ which captured the imagination of many whilst the attendances were high on all three days with buses coming in from all over Cornwall and Devon.
The kitchen was kept exceptionally busy serving lunches and afternoon teas and cake under the very able supervision of Maria Berkeley and Caroline Miller who were supported by a dedicated team of helpers.
