A father-of-two from Bude jumped 10,000 feet on Monday, November 9 to support friends and family who have been affected by cancer. Neil Chivers, 50, (pictured above), raised £650 from the sponsored skydive for World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF). Neil, who runs a sign writing business, said: "I know many people who have been affected by cancer and what a terrible disease it is. This is why I decided to take part in the sponsored skydive for WCRF. The effect of diet on your cancer risk is something that really concerns me and this is why I think WCRF's work is so very worthwhile. My family and I try hard to be healthy, partly because of their healthy living message." Neil, who is originally from Oxford, has lived in Cornwall for 10 years with his wife of 28 years, Deborah, and their two teenage daughters. Prior to the jump, Neil said: "The spot where I am jumping from is actually very near to where Debs and I had our first holiday together many years ago. I'm still pretty nervous about the jump though! It's something I had thought about doing for a year before I actually went ahead and booked it. For a good year I kept chickening out as I'm scared of heights, so this is a big challenge for me!" Natalie Tarrant, Events Manager at WCRF, said: "We are so grateful to Neil for taking on the skydive for us. The money Neil raises will go towards our research and education programmes into the link between lifestyle and cancer." To sponsor Neil, visit http://www.wcrf-uk.org/sponsor">www.wcrf-uk.org/sponsor.
