BUDE started the better using their pace to trouble the visitors and not long into the game this pace proved decisive as a quickly taken free hit on the halfway line saw Pete Horton dribble his way through the Tavistock midfield then play a simple one two with Andrew Hobbs whose pass back enabled Pete to place the ball into the back of the net.
The visiting 'keeper took a dislike to the way the goal had been scored and as a result of using some very offensive language towards the umpire was sent off for five minutes. Bude put pressure on the empty goal but were unable to convert any of their chances and this continued throughout the rest of the half and saw Bude become a little frustrated.
After the re-start it was unfortunately more of the same and as Bude lacked that second goal the tight scoreline gave Tavistock hope and upon winning a short corner levelled the game with a low strike.
This seemed to spur Bude on and almost instantly David Woodward had restored Bude's lead as he crept in unmarked at the back post to slot the ball past the out-stretched 'keeper's foot into the net.
The whole team then rallied and were determined to put the game beyond Tavistock's grasp, this was done when another smart passing move saw David Woodward step up to claim his second goal some five minutes later.
The Bude defence were solid from there on in giving the visitors very few chances to attack let alone get a shot in on goal, the midfield and forwards worked their socks off until the final whistle and would have scored a hatful more goals had it not been for some amazing saves by the visiting 'keeper and his woodwork!
Bude had the final say as Martin Reay doggedly fought during a goalmouth scramble to send the ball over the line, this gave Bude a comfortable scoreline in the end and will help them continue to put pressure of those few teams above them.
The Bude team sponsored by Bude Sports, HBH Woolacotts and Bott were Andy Davis, Simon Fry, George Douglass, Marlon McMahon, Mark Kivell, Jason Snowsill, Martin Reay, Will Brown, David Woodward, Dan Denton, Pete Horton, Andy Hobbs and Conor Bickle.
Bude Ladies 1st XI won 3-0 at home to Morgarrows in the county cup with goals from Emily Horn, Leanne Stanbury and Briony Varcoe.
