The Bude Grassland Society has raised £4,000 to support the work of Dr David Hillebrandt and Dr Angus MacDonald who run TACTICS (Tamar and Central

Torridge Immediate Care Support). The money will be used to furnish Dr MacDonald's car with life saving equipment and also to provide local training in emergency and accident first aid. The Bude Grassland Society auctioned many valuable items from agricultural companies and received many very generous donations from members to raise this sum.

Commenting on the fundraising, society chairman John Britton said: "We were made aware of this situation when Dr Hillebrandt addressed the

society in October, having trained another doctor to help him, there was no support from the NHS so we decided to do it ourselves. The sum we have raised should help to provide effective emergency response by a

qualified doctor with all the right equipment. We are very grateful to members and local companies for their support." Dr Angus MacDonald said: "TACTICS, the North Devon and Cornwall branch of BASICS (The British Association of Immediate Care) very much appreciates this great act of generosity from the farmers of the Bude Grassland Society. We have not yet fully decided how best to spend this money but careful consideration and thought is being given and we will feedback when we do. For example, a defibrillator costs £2,500, I very much hope that the South West Ambulance Trust will continue to support the invaluable work done by medical first responders such as Dr Hillebrandt over the years. BASICS members come from nursing, doctor and paramedic backgrounds and if any clinicians in the community would like to become a volunteer medical responder then Basics TACTICS or Basics Cornwall would be very interested to hear from them."
