AN ARMY of youngsters volunteered to help spruce up a community open space as part of a fun day in Bude.

The event, involving local housing associations, combined fun, activities and entertainment with practical support and advice.

Youngsters who live on the Broadclose estate agreed to regularly litter-pick, monitor play equipment and report any safety issues at the open space ran by the county council.

They will be rewarded for their efforts as Junior Park Rangers with activities such as surfing and bowling, thanks to the Community Action Through Sport scheme.
