SCUBA divers from Bude have helped to release hundreds of baby lobsters into the sea as part of a major marine conservation project.

Members of the Bude branch of the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) were on hand at the launch to ensure the little creatures had the best possible start in life.

They took around 800 lobsters, 18 metres below the surface, to the site of a 17th century shipwreck, called the Coronation, a British gun ship which sunk off Penlee Point in Plymouth in 1691.

The little lobsters were taken down to the seabed in special trays which keep them in separate chambers to prevent the naturally cannibalistic creatures from eating one another in transit.
