Formerly a NCDC councillor for four years for the town, Nigel has campaigned for many things during his time as Cornwall Councillor, including more affordable housing for local people and safer cycling and walking to school.
He was in the group that started the campaign to save the Bude Sea Pool when Cornwall Council wanted to close it, and was a founder member of the Friends of Bude Sea Pool.
Additionally, Nigel worked with many local community groups and organisations bringing a million-pound investment to Bude tourism and free parking at the library, revitalising play areas and many other initiatives.
Nigel will continue to campaign for safer cycling and walking to school in Bude and keeping Bude special from overdevelopment.
He has just married Jennifer Clair, a Canadian from Alberta, and they intend to remain living in Bude.
Nigel said: “This is a new stage in my life with Jennifer and it was a great privilege representing Bude at Cornwall Council, something I will miss and I will always be grateful for the help and support I received from Bude people.
“I confess, I won’t miss the bureaucracy and red tape and driving the long way to Truro from Bude.”
A by-election will be held to replace Nigel Pearce in the Bude ward later this year.
