Bude-Stratton Town Council is being consulted about the abolition of taxi zones so that taxis could operate across the entire county — a move which has a number of

advantages and disadvantages.

Historically the provision of taxis and private hire vehicles has varied depending upon which district council licensed the activity.

Following the establishment of the unitary authority (Cornwall Council) the provision of taxis and private hire vehicles will need to be regulated uniformly across the county.

Bude-Stratton Town Council is therefore seeking the views of the operators of taxis and private hire vehicles prior to making its consultation response. The matter will be considered at the town council meeting scheduled for June 4, 2009.
