The Directors of Bude Haven Recreation Ground Ltd (BHRG) took part in a very pleasant evening on October 22 at the home of Mr and Mrs W Keat. After a board meeting, the company chairman, Mrs Kathy Smeeth made a presentation to Mr Ron Thorn who was retiring after 59 years service as a company director The BHRG was founded in 1923 by a group of local businessmen to provide sporting facilities for the town as an amenity for locals and visitors alike. During his time as a director, Mr Thorn has seen many changes, the most important being the turning of the company into a Charitable Trust. Mrs Smeeth thanked him for all he had done and presented him with some engraved cut glass and a written citation. Mrs Thorn was presented with a bouquet of flowers. In reply, Mr Thorn thanked the board for their gift and said he had enjoyed every minute of his time as a director and how pleased he was that his daughter, Mrs Sarah Pringle, was taking his place. The full board of the BHRG consists of Mrs Kathy Smeeth (chairman), Mr Wilf Keat (vice chairman) and directors Mesdames Wendy Ball and Sarah Pringle, Messrs Adrian Bennett, Owen May, Keith Page, Mike Slee, Norman Tucker and Mrs Bridget Chidley (company secretary). Following the presentation, everyone enjoyed light refreshments.
