THE new and exciting Your Shore Beach Rangers project of the Cornwall Wildlife Trust is taking rock pooling to the extreme.

Recently a group of intrepid explorers took to the rock pools and reefs of Wrangle Point to see what they could find.

Donning a wetsuit and mask they came face to face with strawberry anemones, shannies and shore crabs.

‘Your Shore Beach Rangers’ is a new Cornwall Wildlife Trust project in partnership with Cornwall College, aiming to inspire Cornwall’s young people and communities to engage with their marine environment.

Nat Gibb, community engagement officer for the project, said: “We’re right at the start of this exciting countywide project, and the Bude area is one we are focusing on first.

“Bude gives home to an amazing abundance of marine life as well as an existing community clearly dedicated to protecting their beaches through the work of Bude Cleaner seas and #2minutebeachclean and others.

“This project aims to support the community in establishing a voluntary marine conservation group to monitor, protect and educate about this special marine environment.”

Your Shore Beach Rangers was launched at Rosie’s Kitchen in June where an amazing 60 people turned up to find out more.

Following the fantastic community interest, the beach ranger team have been delivering marine activities and events for all ages and abilities to get stuck into, including snorkelling lessons in Bude’s very own sea pool.

August 21 saw an opportunity to learn more about the marine life living in Blackrock’s rockpools.

Still to come is a chance to find out more about the life under the waves. There is a guided snorkelling safari on Tuesday, September 6 from 5.30 to 7pm and Thursday, September 22 from 5.30 to 7pm. All equipment provided.

Anyone interested in taking part can book a space by emailing [email protected] or call 07973 728804.

There will be an ‘Extreme Beach Clean’ with Shoreline Saturday at Rosie’s, Crooklets beach on Saturday, September 17, with a chance to clean parts of the beach which are not normally reached. Get in touch with the trust if you would like to come along and try out abseiling.
