AN AMENDED scheme for the erection of a three storey apartment block on land at Flexbury Park, Bude was approved by North Cornwall District Council's Planning and Development Committee on Tuesday, November 4.

Whitemoon Developments Ltd sought permission to erect a three storey block of 12 two bedroomed flats with 10 parking spaces.

A similar development was approved in 2007 but the present scheme involved changes to the accommodation, including an additional unit as well as a redesign of the building itself.

Bude and Stratton Town Council objected to the plans as they felt it was an overdevelopment of the site and because of a lack of landscaping, the intrusive scale of the development and because the building would be out of keeping with other buildings in the area.

However, case officer Simon King said: "Whilst the changes to the scheme, including the additional unit and a simplified design, are not necessarily seen to be particularly beneficial changes they are however not felt to be so significant for there to be a different stance.

"The revised proposal, which now includes for affordable housing, is felt to be satisfactory and the scheme accordingly supported."

Councillors voted in favour of the recommendation for approval subject to the applicant entering into a Section 106 Agreement to provide a minimum of 50 per cent of any dwellings to be affordable.
