TWO brothers from Launceston Amateur Boxing Club travelled to Waltham Forest in London on Friday November 21.

Jameel and Shaine Sandham were boxing on a dinner show where Olympic gold medallist James Degale was the guest of honour.

Shaine (18) boxed Michael Denley (18) from Canvey. From the opening bell Shaine took control and put the pressure on his opponent with an aggressive two fisted attack. The Canvey boxer battled back hard but Shaine's persistence saw him getting the best of the argument in each round. The bout could have been fought in a telephone box and the final bell saw Shaine declared the winner on a unanimous points decision.

Jameel (17) found himself top of the bill in his first four round contest, against Joe Marchant (18) from Romford.

In contrast to the previous bout, Jameel elected to box at long range against a cagey rival, trying to pick off his opponent with fast right leads. The Romford boxer was no mug and countered well with neither boxer getting the upper hand.

The five hour drive and being last on seemed to be having an effect on the Launceston boxer as his strength started to fade in the third allowing the Romford boxer to score a few points. The fourth round saw the Launceston boy give it his all in a final attempt to outscore his opponent but failed to impress the judges who awarded the bout to the Romford boy with a points win.

This makes the grounds for a great rematch on Launceston ABC's dinner show this Saturday, December 6, in the White Hart Hotel where most of the Launceston club will be in action against an Essex team. For information and bookings please call Clare on 01566 86617.
