TAKING a zip-wire across a 490-metre long zip-wire was a feat faced with determination by two daring and caring students from Sir James Smith's Community School. Alex Ferguson, in Year 10, and his sister Olivia, in Year 8, participated in a fund-raising 'Zip-Wire Day' at Adrenaline Quarry, Menheniot on September 14. They 'flew' across an old quarry on twin parallel wires for the MS Society, as their mother, Kirsty, suffers from the condition. Kirsty explained that, together with their elder brother Tom, they care for her when she has bad days, and added that, as the effects of MS are very sporadic, she never knows when she is going to get an attack. Between them Olivia and Alex raised £350 for the charity, successfully completing the challenge set by the 50-metre high zip-wire, which can reach speeds of 40mph.
