Launceston Masters Swimming Club member Pat Stanmore was awarded a bronze medal in the T30 Challenge swimming event. The challenge is a national competition held annually in which participants swim as far as possible in 30 minutes. The objectives of this event are firstly, to encourage adult swimmers, whether ASA (Amateur Swimming Association) members or not, to participate in longer distance events at a time of year when longer training swims are desirable. Also, to encourage 'lap' and fitness swimmers to take part in an ASA event, and finally, to determine the individuals who can swim the greatest distance in 30 minutes. This event is open to all swimmers who reside in Great Britain. It takes part in local pools, in this case at Phoenix Leisure Centre in Launceston. This year saw eight swimmers from Launceston Masters Swimming Club take part, and for Jill Fish, Maxine Kane and Stephen Gilbert, it was their inaugural venture into Masters swimming! Others who took part were Mike Law, John Rhodes, Jayne Cresswell and Holly Yeo. Anyone interested in adult swimming, whether to compete, improve technique, or simply to improve fitness levels, should ring the Phoenix Leisure Centre on 01566 772551 for further details.
