BRAUNTON edged out Bradworthy in a pulsating tie to set up a meeting with Holsworthy in the Torridge Cup Final. Both sides played their part in an entertaining game which could have been won by either side.

Braunton were the quickest to settle and put Bradworthy under some early pressure, Ryan Dempsey shot through a crowded box but was denied by a combination of defenders Andy Cotton and Ben Curtis who defended desperately on the line.

The first half was a tense, tight affair, Braunton controlling the play without creating many clear-cut chances. When they did they both fell to Graham Greene; first Brad' 'keeper Will Radford denied him with his legs before Greene fired wide when put through when he should have at least hit the target. Despite their lack of attacking edge it was Brad' who came closest to breaking the deadlock, Gary Clarke's curling free kick had the Braunton 'keeper beaten and he was unlucky to see his effort crash back off the bar.

Two goals in two minutes looked to have been Brad's undoing early in the second half. The first goal came as a low driven cross spun off Brad' defender Damian French and trickled agonisingly past the wrong footed Radford. Seconds later it was 2-0, slack defending allowing Dempsey time to volley in from close range.

With Braunton assuming the game was in the bag they withdrew Dempsey and Mark Saunders midway through the second period and Bradworthy began to get on top. Danny Bryant thundered in a bullet header for his first goal of the season and suddenly Bradworthy were releasing wave after wave of attacks on the Braunton goal. Carlo Chandler went close after good work from Luke Potter and Michael Sampson fired inches wide from distance. With the seconds ebbing away late substitute Liam Curtis superbly headed in Clarke's free kick with his first touch to send the crowd ecstatic and ensure extra time followed.

Again though Brad' conceded two goals in a short space of time. Andy Bywe smashed in an unstoppable 25 yard strike and, after good work from Dean Wall, Russell Harrison was left with a simple tap in to restore Brauntons two goal lead. As Bradworthy pushed in search of a route back into the game it inevitably opened up,

French was brilliant at the back, denying everything Braunton threw forward. Liam Dart pulled a goal back to set up an enthralling last five minutes but as Brad' chucked everything forward they were caught out when Harrison charged down Radford's clearance and rolled the ball into the empty net.
