BRIDGERULE Carnival week began on Sunday, July 25 when Chloe Brawn was crowned carnival queen by the retiring queen Tia Jenkin.

Chloe was attended by her sister Summer. Cream teas were served and sideshows traded, followed the crowning. A United Service in the parish church then took place lead by Rev Chris Davidson and Rev Beth McDowell.

Monday evening saw a very popular wine and wisdom evening with 19 teams taking part and some teams not even being able to participate due to lack of space.

A team from Pyworthy were the eventual winners. Tuesday saw 20 teams take part in a skittle tournament, the winners were 'Buttsbear' and the runners-up 'Lucky six'.

Wednesday was a Ramble evening. Just as everyone set off it began to rain, but it didn't deter anyone as they made their way to Tatson. Transport home for everyone was a much enjoyed tractor and trailer ride. A barbecue followed and the children's miniature gardens and art work were on display.

A dog show followed on Thursday with quite a few dogs entering each class. The very fair judge being Julie Pike from Breezlyn Dog Kennels. Eyes down for prize bingo, held on Friday, organised by the local football club.

Saturday was carnival day. A large crowd entered The Ham by kind permission of Mr and Mrs D Hale, to see a high standard of various tableaux and fancy dress. The judges had quite a task judging some of the entries.

Leading the procession for the first time this year was Bideford Pipes and Drums followed by the carnival queen, Chloe and her attendant Summer.

After the procession, the Pipes and Drums entertained the crowd lining the street. This was then followed by a line dance demonstration by a group of local ladies.

A disco by Jamie concluded the week of events.

Taking place in the methodist chapel also over the weekend was a Flower Festival entitled 'Memories are made of this...' Sonia, Gill, Vivienne, Pat, Christine, Di, Geraldine, Audrey, Shirley, Yvonne and Heather depicted various memories of the 60s, 70s and 80s in floral art coupled with accessories which accentuated their lovely displays.

The carnival committee has expressed thanks to everyone who helped to make the carnival week another success especially those who entered the various competitions.
