BRIDGERULE Open Gardens presented cheques of £1,350 each to both The Devon and Cornwall Air Ambulance services.
The weather for the open gardens event wasn’t as good as it could have been and the committee of keen gardeners thanked everyone who came along and made the day a great success.
Waterproof jackets were the required clothing for the event but many discovered their coats were far from waterproof, nevertheless they remained cheerful and were full of compliments about the ten very different gardens they visited plus the welcome and varied refreshments supplied.
Several people were delighted to meet up with Anne Swithinbank and her husband who opened Bridgerule’s 10th Anniversary event starting at The Mill.
Many plants and produce were sold, lunches were enjoyed and homemade cakes devoured.
Inside the village hall many visitors to Bridgerule enjoyed the art display by Karen Thomas, the cream teas made and served by the ladies from St Bridget’s church, the cake stall run by the ladies from the Methodist Chapel and the Primary School’s Art Competition.
Thanks were expressed to the residents of Bridgerule who placed colourful flower tubs by their homes, plants growing in wellie boots and even watering cans with strawberries growing in them.
On June 23, the gardeners met for the purpose of handing over the two cheques to representatives of both the Devon and Cornwall Air Ambulance services.
