EXCITEMENT is mounting in Saltash ahead of a rare opportunity to cross the River Tamar by foot over the Royal Albert Railway Bridge.
Tickets for Sunday morning's Bridge Walk quickly sold out, and 475 people are set to make the crossing from Saltash Railway Station.
Those making the journey will have the choice of returning via shuttlebus over the Tamar Bridge, or taking a small ferryboat back to Saltash.
The event has been staged to celebrate the completion of £20m refurbishment works to the bridge, which have been going on for the past six years.
An exhibition of Royal Albert Bridge artefacts and photographs taken during the refurbishment will be on display at Ashtorre Rock after the walk has taken place.
Meanwhile, a pre-walk event has been arranged at Ashtorre Rock for tomorrow evening (Saturday) which is also open to non-ticket holders. A member of the Taziker team will be telling the story and the events behind the painting of the Royal Albert Bridge.
