PLANS for a village inn, post office, shop and community hall at Boyton were turned down by North Cornwall District Council's Planning and Development Committee on Tuesday, March 3.
The application — submitted by Mr Lindsay Ellacott — sought
permission for the erection of a single building at Newton Farm which would comprise a community hall, shop, post office, public house and restaurant and manager's accommodation. Car parks and gardens were also included in the plans.
A large number of
letters were received by the council, several in support but considerably more against the
development.
Although Boyton Parish Council and T Hopper from the Civic Society supported the application, the case
officer, Simon King,
recommended it for refusal.
He said: "The building will be a significant development substantially greater than any other building in the vicinity which together with its extensive parking areas will have an unacceptable impact on the character of the area."
Councillors voted in favour of his recommendation for refusal.
