BUDE Coastguard Rescue Team (CRT) were paged at 3.35pm on Saturday, and tasked to back up Hartland CRT following reports that a boy had fallen down a cliff and was stuck on a ledge, just south of Hartland Quay.
Rescue 924 — the HM Coastguard rescue helicopter based in St Mawgan — was also tasked to the scene. After performing an immediate rope rescue, Hartland CRT, with back up from Bude CRT members, managed to stabilise the boy, who, although scared, was unhurt.
Upon arrival, Rescue 924 recovered the casualty from the cliff face by winch, and once onboard was assessed by the helicopter paramedic who deemed he was unhurt with no requirement to take the boy to hospital.
Rescue 924 proceeded to fly to a nearby field upon which the remaining members of Bude CRT had set up a Helicopter Landing Zone.
Accompanied by the Winchman from Rescue 924, the boy was safely escorted from the helicopter and into the care of Bude CRT, were he was checked over and released to return to his parents.
