WEEK St Mary Adventure Church got in the Christmas spirit early last Tuesday, as they packed 27 shoeboxes for the charity, Samaritan’s Purse, as part of this year’s Operation Christmas Child initiative.

Families from across the parish made donations of money and items towards the appeal, which children from the church’s youth club — Week St Mary Adventure Church — sorted and packed into shoebox sized parcels, to be sent to disadvantaged children around the world.

Each parcel contains much-needed items such as toiletries, paper, pencils, hats and gloves, along with at least one ‘wow’ item such as a soft toy, game or jewellery. The young adventurers had great fun choosing items that they felt would suit a particular age range for their shoebox, and many even wrote a little note to the receiver.

The boxes will be blessed at Week St Mary Church Family Service on November 2 before being taken to a local drop off point to be shipped with other shoeboxes that have been donated across the county.
