MEMBERS of Kensey Vale Bowling Club were delighted to receive a grant of £772.95 from Cornwall Council's community chest, as arranged by Liberal Democrat Cllr Alex Folkes.
The money was used towards the purchase of a new short mat, which will enable more people to play on weekday afternoons at the club.
A spokesperson said: "At the present time, there are approximately 20 bowlers who enjoy their roll ups and cup of tea in the afternoon, but we would welcome anyone to come along and try the game.
"All the equipment can be provided so there is no initial outlay or commitment if it is not your game, but it is certainly worth a go to join a happy and sociable group."
There are evening leagues for the more competitive bowlers on Monday, Thursday and Friday evenings, and the occasional friendly against other teams.
