A SUCCESSFUL Bosfest was held recently raising thousands for local organisations in and around the town.

During the two day festival the sun shined as music, art exhibits and plenty of family friendly activities were on offer.

The whole event was put on for the community, with the goal of giving back to it, as four of the five recipients of the £2,306 raised were Boscastle National Coastwatch Institution; Boscastle Football Club; Boscastle Community Primary School; and Boscastle Playschool, alongside the Cornwall Air Ambulance.

Organiser, Andrew Leeds has been running the event for a few years now and he was thrilled with the money raised.

He said: “We don’t run this festival for profit we want to just put back into the community. We raised a lot more than we did two years ago, which was great and were helped massively by the Napoleon Inn who offered us their facilities to host the music event.”

The music showcased the Boscastle Bouys as well as playing host to musical acts from all over the South West, from Falmouth to Okehampton and further afield.

Music was ringing out day and night for people to enjoy, as well as there being a charity prize auction and raffle, which was well supported by businesses. There was also face painting and a bouncy castle for children, and an arts and crafts fair in the hall.

Andrew knows a thing or two about putting on a successful music festival, as he runs North Petherwin’s Kindred Spirits Festival.

He put the success of the weekend down to the team of volunteers he had working alongside him, adding: “Kathy Falkner was brilliant in collecting the charity auction and raffle prizes. We also had Carol Burrows who was the head steward and ran the box office and Julie Potter who was able to organise the arts and crafts section.

“A big thank you must be given to Ron and Sharron Muffet from the Napoleon Inn who have also asked us back next year.”

Andrew offered his musical expertise, managing that side of the festival, bringing all the equipment and staging with him. He already has plans for next year and hopes to continue the success.

“We will definitely go ahead next year and plan for it to be around the same time at the Napoleon Inn, hoping for good weather again.

“It was a great weekend for all the community. I am hoping that it will grow arms and legs and get bigger and better year on year.”
