Jeremy Hicks, who has delivered newspapers in the Boscastle area for over 12 years, is pictured handing over to Arthur Bannister, his regular weekly copy of the Camelford and Delabole Post. During the Boscastle Floods of 2004 and the recent heavy snow, most of his customers still received their papers and magazines every day. Jeremy drives around 20 miles a day during his six day a week deliveries. The round normally takes around two and a half hours but during the floods and snow this was many hours more. The first day after the flood, his round took him nine hours. The only places he could not get to in the recent snow were New Mills, Beeny, Pennycrocker and the St Juliot areas. He starts his round at 6.15 am and finishes about 9.15 am and has around 100 customers. Jeremy worked in London for the Metropolitan Police for 30 years but returned to Boscastle as soon as he could when he retired. He then started his newspaper round in Boscastle, collecting the papers from Boscastle Newsagents. Jeremy's ex wife Gill and their 13-year-old daughter Charlotte, both live in Boscastle. Jeremy explained that his hobbies are gardening and he enjoys wildlife and likes to go to Davidstow Moor to see the various birds and animals. Jeremy says he will keep delivering the papers and magazines as long as he is fit enough to do the round.
