WHAT a day — the Boscastle Raft Race was a roaring success as many paddled their way to victory on September 9.

Thanks were expressed to North Coast Harmony, River-Mor Coven and Energia Samba Band for getting everyone in a competitve mood and there were great demonstrations on the day from the Tintagel Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC).

With a very strong onshore wind the raft race finally began — after a false start. The judges’ final decision saw Tintagel Surf Club taking the win, followed by ’Brexit’ then ’Wonder’.

The children’s inflatable race was romped this year by Isaac Buxton, with Mai Athey coming in second and Molly Edwards third.

Tracey Bright from the Cobweb Inn, Boscastle, said: “Well done to everyone who completed the course. It was hard going with the wind. All those who finished should be very proud. ‘The lemon’ goes to, believe it or not, ’Torrent 2’ — give those gig ladies their due, they were the only team to assemble on site and never gave up — just ended the race further back than they started.

“A close second to the lemon was ’The Great Unwashed’ after letting off many flares and cannons, flanked by Tintagel Surf Club rescue boards ’Pirate Dan’ left his crew and abandoned ship.

“Well done to all those who finished.”

Thanks were expressed to Carolyn Edwards and Steve Littlejohns and to Andrew Leeds for comparing and supplying flags, walkie talkies, jackets etc and Lyn for her electricity.

The evening finished off with a presentation and live music by ‘The Stows’ at the Cobweb Inn. The event was held in aid of Tintagel SLSC.
