IN his programme notes Chairman Julian Morris wrote of the drubbings that Kingsbridge inflicted upon Bude last season, including a 72-0 hiding metered out when the sides met at High House last January, en-route to a top two finish when they just missed out on promotion in the end of season play-offs, writes Paul Cottle.

Last Saturday at Bencoolen Meadow, the boot was well and truly on the other foot as the Seasiders romped home 36-12, scoring five tries in the process and picking up their third bonus point in their last four outings.

It has to be said this was a substantially different Kingsbridge side to the one that did all the damage last term, with four players currently in New Zealand following the Rugby World Cup, two others suffering from long term injuries and their talisman, the old warhorse Jason Putt enjoying a well earned retirement.

However, a team can only play what is in front of it and if there is one thing in particular this young Bude side have learned this season it is the pursuit of precious bonus points, whilst last year, the lack of them almost cost the Seasiders their place in the premier two counties league.

With the strong southerly breeze at their backs and playing towards the Town, Bude opened strongly with their pack in dominant form. Two early successful kicks from left wing Dan Pearce, after the visitors' forwards had been forced to concede a brace of penalties, gave the home side a deserved 6 point lead after as many minutes.

Taking advantage of their side's forward dominance, Bude's threequarters began to show their paces and on nine minutes, Pearce and full back Kyle Speare combined with a sharp break down the left and only a spilled pass denied them the opening try.

Outside centre Paul Williams was similarly halted following a penalty move just short of the 20 minute mark before right wing Tim Green made no mistake ten minutes later as he dived over in the corner after a sweeping move, with the Yates brothers, Steve and Andy, prominent.
