FUNDRAISING has been getting underway in Bude for Animal Free Research UK and Breast Cancer UK.
Bokwa in Your Frock, taking place at BED Nightclub, raised over £400 with money still coming in. Jo Cowling kindly donated the venue for this event.
The second event, Glam Up for Boxercise, also took place, raising £200 with money still coming in. The Sensory Room donated the venue for this event.
The events have helped raise money for Animal Free Research UK and Breast Cancer UK for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Animal Free Research UK is a study led by Professor Valerie Speirs from the University of Leeds, which will help researchers further understand the role played by potentially harmful chemicals and their impact on breast density, a key risk factor for breast cancer.
The partnership between Animal Free Research UK and Breast Cancer UK is changing the way that charities work together by combining their joint expertise and visions to fund a three-year animal free breast cancer research project.
The research will explore whether endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) have an impact on breast density. Many EDCs are synthetic and can be found in many every day items including plastics, personal care products, cosmetics, domestic cleaning products and food and drink.
Between them, the charities aim to raise £90,000 to fund this groundbreaking research.
Steph Jones-Giles from Animal Free Research Bude Group said: “It’s a brilliant campaign and I am delighted to see how quickly the idea has been taken up. From Bokwa and Boxercise to foodie events in cafes and competitions in shops, Bude has yet again shown what an amazing community it is. To date we have raised over £1,000.”
