THE body of a 61-year-old man was discovered at the base of the cliffs at Tristram Bay near to Polzeath on Saturday at around 11.30am.

A joint rescue operation was mounted by police and coastguard, incorporating the inshore lifeboat from Rock.

The man has yet to be formally identified but it is believed he is local to the area.

Police said a formal identification will take place later in the week.

Inquiries are continuing but police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
