THE Review dated April 17 reported an unprovoked wild boar attack on Aylburton Common.  Having severely injured a spaniel dog the boar then turned on its owner who was fortunately saved by her husband beating it off with a branch.

The report then mentions that following publicity about this attack members of a pro-boar group posted picture of a dead piglet online.

The spaniel attack and the dead piglet were in fact two separate incidents occurring on different dates and at different locations.

The report does not make this clear and could easily mislead readers into thinking that the two incidents were linked.

The online picture of the dead piglet shows an injury more likely to be a shotgun wound or an exit wound caused by a large calibre bullet, possibly even a wound from where  an arrow has been removed.  The greyhound/whippet shown being closely controlled in a separate photograph has no blood on it and the piglet appears to have no wounds to its hind quarters or throat which would normally result from a dog attack.  The shoulder wound in fact is very near the heart, exactly where a shooter would aim. Do we have misinformation all round?
