THE winning ticket for the colourful quilt, hand-made by the Inney Crafters, was drawn at the Laneast carol service on Tuesday, December 15.

The quilt took Inney Crafters almost two years to stitch and sew and was won by local woman Jan Gough.

The winning ticket was drawn by the Rev Chris Goldsmith, Bishop of St Germans. He came to show his support to the parish and thank everyone for the work they put in and to those who contributed to the damaged stained glass window and church fund.

Attending the service, along with the Bishop, were some of the Inney Crafters and the Friends of Laneast; Vicky Rayner, Ruth Cornish, Kate Handford, Vicky Williams, Mary Groves, Jane Bullivant, Karen Ponting and the Rev Deryn Roberts.

The carol service began with a reception for the local community as a thank you for their support in raising almost £10,000 this year.

This money will be put towards the repair and conservation of the medieval glass window in the church — along with repairs needed to the stonework.

The money raised so far is a combination of fundraising efforts from the quilt raffle, the Poldark musical evening held last June, the craft and gift event in October, sales of Christmas decorations and the locally brewed ‘Pane in the Glass’ beer — also contributing were donations given by the previous winners of the Couch Adams Prize and a grant from the Headley Trust.

Mary Groves, Friend of Laneast Church, said: “The Friends of Laneast Church are grateful to everyone that bought a raffle ticket and helped raise over £500 to add to the money already raised from previous events.

“The amount of effort from a tiny parish of around 80 households has been phenomenal and the work to start the repair and conservation of the glass has now been started thanks to the monies raised.”

In 2016 more events are planned to raise the remaining funds needed to repair the stonework and replace the window of the church.
