NEARLY 100 people filled St Paternus Church in South Petherwin on the evening of Monday, July 2, where the Bishop of Truro the Rt Rev Tim Thornton took a service of thanksgiving for the re-dedication of the bells.

All six bells, three of which were originally cast in 1729, had recently returned from Taylors Bell Foundry in Loughborough. Not only that, the church is now in possession of a Diamond Jubilee bell — one being recast to mark the special year and occasion.

Representatives of some of the trusts who gave grants towards the work attended, including the May Gurney Trust, Cornwall Historic Churches Trust and the Co-operative Community Fund.
