THE Launceston Friday bingo committee has recently presented various organisations and causes with generous donations.

On Friday, September 9, during the bingo session at Launceston Football Club, members of the bingo committee, Jennie Bailey and Kath Dymond, presented George Logg of Breathe Easy with a £50 cheque. They then went on to present £200 to young cricketer Taylor Gerry and the Smiley Happy People day nursery.

Taylor has recently been selected to play cricket for Cornwall, and has been invited to attend a tour to South Africa, which he needs funds for, thus the £100 donation will help with his fundraising tremendously.

Smiley Happy People unfortunately experienced a break in during the summer, but the generous £100 donation has ‘helped restore faith’.

Vron Walters, from Smiley Happy People, said: “We were really surprised and delighted at receiving the cheque. After the break in, we have been overwhelmed by the generosity of people in the town, and Golda Heywood and the bingo group have helped restore faith in the town.

“We were made to feel so welcome and will be joining them again; it really was a fun evening — so many people of all ages laughing and having fun.”

Smiley Happy People is still deciding what the money should be spent on. At the moment, it looks like the donation will go towards outdoor learning for the children, an entertainer or towards the carnival float for the children to take part in during next month’s Launceston Carnival. Parents, children and staff will make the decision.

Vron added: “We would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to the lovely bingo group for thinking of us.”
