THE third annual Stoke Climsland Bike Show and Family Fun Day took place in the village on Sunday, August 20.
Despite the poor weather, which prompted a much smaller turnout of bikers than normal, £218 was raised that was initially going to be split between The Chestnut Appeal and the Primrose Foundation, two charities which have helped family members in recent times. However, upon hearing about the event, owner of Lifton-based Hogs Bottom Garden Delights and biker, Malcolm Morrison decided to double the tally, meaning each charity got £218.
The day started with the bikers meeting at Tamar Bridge Car Park at midday to ride to the village playing fields for a 1pm start.
There, a vast array of activities and refreshments were on offer while local band ‘The LineUp’ kept everyone entertained, and the bike show saw riders compete for the Best in Show, Best Classic, Best Sports Bike, Best Rat, Best Custom and Best Children’s Bike.
Organiser Lucy Hard, said: “Although it was disappointing that the awful weather meant we only got a few bikers compared to normal, we still had a good day.
“The LineUp stepped in brilliantly and we had the usual array of activities and stalls plus a barbecue, a hog roast, a bar at the social club and the bike competition, so there was plenty going on.”
Two-hundred-and-eighteen pounds is a lot less than normal, however the gesture from Malcolm Morrison, left Lucy delighted.
Lucy said: “The gesture from Malcolm was so kind and we’re extremely thankful to him for doing so and it means that both The Chestnut Appeal and the Primrose Foundation can benefit even more. I’d also like to thank everyone who came along, The LineUp for playing at such short notice, Sandy Palmer, Sarah Broome and Rachel from Stoke Climsland WI for running the cake stall and raffle and to all the bikers for turning up.”
