THE Church of Christ the Cornerstone Tregadillett hosted a special ‘Big Breakfast’ fund raising event on Saturday, October 13 in partnership with the Launceston Money Advice Centre (LMAC).

LMAC was founded some five years ago as part of an initiative from Launceston Churches Together which also saw the Launceston Foodbank and Launceston Street Pastors start.

More than 60 ‘diners’ braved the weather and enjoyed a breakfast in Tregadillett Community Centre and the magnificent sum of £453.65 was raised to support the on-going work of LMAC. The profit in part was due to the financial support received from Philip Warren, Martins and Trethorne Leisure Farm along side some generous donations from individuals.

LMAC sees its prime role is to help and support individuals move to a better place in their lives, a world free from debt.  In the past year, LMAC has seen 78 new clients who have together brought with them more than £400,000 of debt. It will always be the case that some debt can be due to excessive spending, but in the main, the overwhelming majority of LMAC’s clients have fallen into debt as a result of one or more life changing events including the death of a partner, an injury at work, the breakdown of a relationship or the onset of a life changing illness and/or disability.

LMAC has a small team of dedicated, trained volunteer debt advisers who provide free, face to face advice and support from their offices in the Gateway Centre, Launceston.

Sarah Vinson, LMAC’s centre manager, said: “A big thank you to everyone who helped raise such a magnificent sum at the ‘Big Breakfast’. If you are looking for help and advice or would like to get involved yourself, please get in touch via our website www.launcestonmoney.co.uk.”
