FRIENDSHIPS were renewed and new ones made when twinners united for a weekend of celebrations marking 40 years between Holsworthy and its French sister town, Aunay-sur-Odon.

Holsworthy and District Twinning Association welcomed almost 100 visitors at the Agri-business Centre.

Cheers were given for two visitors who travelled all the way from France on their mopeds to join the celebrations. The market square provided the finish line for the visitors after completing their four-day journey.

Cream teas and refreshments were enjoyed courtesy of the Cowshed Café before James Morrish and Tom Downing, of Kivells, gave a tour of the cattle market. This was of particular interest to the visitors as many have strong farming connections in France.

The next day several visitors and their host families took part in a football match between youth teams from the two towns, which Holsworthy won 3-0. A barbecue and picnic was laid on, with contributions generously provided by parents of the players, the Lions, Waitrose, and Country Dairy.

During the evening a meal was held in the Memorial Hall, followed by entertainment from the Bencoolen Wreckers, and dancing to the music of Atlantic Highway.
