LAUNCESTON town council’s planning committee has supported a planning application for the use of industrial land for parking commercial vehicles at Scarne Industrial Estate.
An application, also for use of industrial land for the parking of commercial vehicles by Aldridge Transport at Scarne Industrial Estate, had been refused by Cornwall Council in October.
The decision notice stated that ‘insufficient information has been submitted to demonstrate that the proposed development would not have a significant detrimental impact on the amenities of the occupiers of neighbouring residential dwellings in respect of noise generation’.
Cllr Leighton Penhale, in supporting the latest application by Aldridge Transport, said: “They employ a lot of men, which should be encouraged. It can only be described as a legitimate business.”
Cllr Brian Hogan, also in support of the application, added: “And, it’s an industrial estate.”
The final decision on the application rests with Cornwall Council.
At the same meeting, councillors heard that pre-application advice is being sought from Cornwall Council on a potential residential development at land south of Newport Industrial Estate, Launceston.
Deputy town clerk Frances Nally told the committee that no site visit had been undertaken, and she pointed out that the site is on the ‘slopes going down to Newport Industrial Estate’.
She added: “We [the town council] are officially not consulted as it is a pre-application.”
Councillors raised concerns over the steepness of the site.
Ms Nally said she would pass on councillors’ comments to Cornwall Council.
l Pre-application advice is being sought from Cornwall Council for conversion of outbuildings to form five holiday cottages at the Tree Inn, Stratton.
At Bude-Stratton Town Council’s planning committtee meeting last week councillors raised concerns about ‘the loss of the character’ and ‘visual impact’, and ‘lack of function room for the community, and parking spaces’.
