A REVISED planning application for a Co-operative store in Kilkhampton has been approved by Cornwall Council.

The Co-operative Group's previous bid to occupy the Simply Wood kitchen showroom site and change it to retail use was turned down by Cornwall Council's East Sub-Area planning committee last August.

The reason for refusal then was a 'vehicular and pedestrian conflict with increased accident potential' due to the increased use of parking bays, the use of the access to the parking bays for delivery vehicles during trading hours and the need to cross the public footway to access the parking bays.

An appeal had been in progress against the refusal and the revised application included a transport statement.

Jonathan Pritchard, a planning agent for the Co-operative Group, told the East Sub-Area planning committee at Liskeard on Monday: "We have actively engaged with officers and specialist transport consultants to produce a comprehensive transport statement.

"Your officers are in agreement with conclusions that there is no evidence to indicate the proposal will result in significant increase in transport movements and as a reason for refusal, on highways safety grounds, will not be sustained at appeal."
