A SPECIAl event was held at The Falcon Hotel, Bude, on Tuesday, July 23, to mark the bi-centenary anniversary of the start of construction of the Bude Canal in 1819.

To celebrate this important occasion a buffet with entertainment was held. The event had been organised by the Bude Canal and Harbour Society (BCHS) in co-operation with the Bude Canal Trust (BCT). Invited guests were the two local mayors, Cllr Bob Willingham of Bude-Stratton and Cllr Joanne Heaven, with her husband Karl Heaven, of Holsworthy

There was a fine celebratory cake and both the BCHS and BCT presented to their respective mayor’s a glass plaque with a map of the canal suitably engraved to record the bi-centenary.

After the excellent buffet and presentations, entertainment was provided by ‘Friggin Riggin’ and ‘Cousin Jack’ both locally based groups and the well attended event was a most enjoyable evening for all present.

Following the event Cllr Heaven expressed her thanks to Cllr Mick Stanton for all his hard work with this working group and stated that he always keeps Holsworthy Town Council update with forth coming events.
