AT THE AGM at Anvil Court, Camelford, on October 14, the Camelford Royal British Legion Women's Section (RBLWS) reported that it has been their best year ever in 63 years.

They have sent away for the work of the Women's section £2,480.

This was given as follows: Benevolent — £1,450; President's Award — £400; Children's Fund — £400; General — £100; County — £100; Truro Cathedral — £30 Flowers. The money was raised by 17 members.

A spokesman said: "The sale of plants at Tregoodwell have sold fantastic this year; a big thank you to all that support the stall. The only sad element was twice this year several plants were taken with no money left! All the money from this stall goes to the work of the RBLWS, a total of £477 over the year."

November and December saw the ladies having stalls outside the Mason Arms in Camelford, which raised £254.

In March Andrea and Sammey from the Mason Arms had a fun 'bikini evening' and raised £100 — well done to you two girls.

The section had a lunch at Margaret's in April and raised a further £154.

In July, the 'Spud and Fill' evening was held at Trevia. Members held their nerve after very, very heavy rain and wind, which did not stop till 5.30pm! The husbands did a fantastic job of putting up marquees and gazebos in the wind and rain.

The spokesman added: "But to the brave people who turned up and to the people who gave us donation, a fantastic sum of £340 was raised."

In July. Roy and Joan Starling held a bingo for the section, raising £250.

August saw the section at the Camelford Show, even in all the mist. A total of £214.98 was raised and this came from a White Elephant stall, spin the wheel tombola, plants and the quilt raffle.

A handmade quilt that they had been selling raffle tickets for was won by Mrs S Flynn from St Mabyn (the president of Camelford Show Mrs Gillian Styles drew the winning ticket).

The rest of the money came from the sale of copper jars, wheat bags, handmade greetings cards and meeting money.

The new committee is as follows: President Mrs E Broad; Chairperson Mrs R Brinklow; Treasurer Mrs M Shillaber and Standard Bearer Mrs M Shillaber.

Thanks have been extended to friends and family that support the section so much.
