TWO young ladies from Launceston described the atmosphere at Windsor Castle over the weekend as ‘incredible’, as they were able to witness the marriage of the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex at St George’s Chapel on Saturday.

Emma Boucher, from Launceston, chose her best friend Beth Martin to attend one of the most exciting national events of the year with her, after being nominated by the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall for her work in the local community through her work as a Girl Guides leader.

Emma was over-the-moon after receiving her letter through the post, and Beth, also a Girl Guides leader, was delighted to be given the opportunity to accompany her friend to the big day.

In the letter, Emma was told that she, and a plus-one, would be able to enter the grounds of Windsor Castle, watch the arrival of guests and the royal family, listen to a live broadcast of the ceremony and watch the royal couple depart via carriage.

The ladies made their way to London over the weekend, and were excited to finally enter the royal grounds of Windsor Castle for the day ahead.

Emma told the Post: “It was just absolutely amazing — incredible!”

Emma and Beth grabbed a great spot, perching behind the official photographers. “We got a really good spot, right where the Queen and royal family entered the chapel. When we arrived, we saw a free space at the front and went and grabbed it because we thought it would be a good spot, so we sat behind the photographers.

“When we got to the castle grounds, we were able to choose where we sat, and we were also given a goody bag with the details of the day, the order of service, some chocolates, shortbread and a bottle of water. We set our picnic blanket down and just got ready to enjoy the day!”

Emma and Beth were able to watch as celebrity guests and members of the royal family began to arrive at St George’s Chapel. “We saw the Beckhams and the Clooneys arrive,” Emma continued. “There were others as well, but it was definitely a highlight seeing them!”

As the wedding service took place between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, it was played on a speaker to the crowds at Windsor, and after the service had come to its conclusion, Emma, Beth and others invited to the day were able to have a look around the chapel, where the wedding had taken place.

“Everyone was so excited, it really was amazing. It was an incredible day, a really lovely, happy atmosphere,” she added.
