ST BREWARD Church PCC treasurer Caroline Hooper was very pleased with the result of the church’s Christmas Fayre held in the village bandroom. She said: “On perhaps the first really cold morning of the season, and whilst the St Breward Christmas lights were being put up in the village centre, the Church Christmas Fayre achieved a profit of £650 — a truly amazing amount and the most I can recall we have ever achieved. One happy Treasurer!”
The Christmas Stall was loaded and included a massive basket of beautifully wrapped ‘surprise presents’, wreaths, decorations, potted bulbs and some really lovely gifts. Something for all tastes.
The Christmas raffle was tremendously popular and the Gammon Dinner Raffle tempted many to purchase tickets. The incredibly decorated Christmas cake, topped by three realistic choir boys, amazed all who saw it at the skill of the decorator. To guess the weight of the cake was no easy task and the guesses ranged from 2lbs to 11lbs (you could have gone metric too!). The correct weight was 6lbs and the winner was delighted.
The kitchen buzzed continually with cheerful chatter whilst mince pies and cake were enjoyed. As ever, the popular cake stall was heaving with goodies, the star being a booze laden home made Christmas Pudding. The bric-a-brac stall had some special and interesting items for sale.
For children (and adults!) naming the Polar Bear was fun and a dip in Santa’s Sack was a must. He had all kinds of presents in there.
Caroline added: “A BIG thank you to everyone involved whether helping, attending or donating. It was immensely rewarding and well worth all the effort many had put in.”
