SINGERS and members of the public alike were ready to shout at the Bencoolen Inn last Sunday afternoon, raising money for Cancer Research UK and the Force charity, and in support of the Smugglers Challenge.

The charity shout, held at the Bencoolen Inn on Sunday, July 23, was aiming to raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research UK and the Force charity, which are the chosen charities for the Smugglers Challenge, which will see four friends from Bude swim around the Cornish coast on a paddle-board.

With six real ales and a selection of cider to choose from at the bar, the shout saw a variety of singing groups from across Cornwall and parts of Devon come along to take part, and members of the community and visitors to Bude enjoyed a great day, full of singing, drinking and support for charity.

Acts included the Bencoolen Wreckers, Figurehead, Newquay Rowing Club Singers, St Merryn Ringers and Singers, Pies and Drams and Friggin Riggin.

One member of Bude’s Bencoolen Wreckers, made up of local lifeboat and RNLI crew, said there was ‘a very nice crowd of locals and holiday makers enjoying themselves’.

Over £356 was raised in the collection buckets for the two charities.
