A PROCLAMATION announcing that the Cornish Gorsedd will take place in Camelford on Saturday, September 1, was made in the town's Enfield Park on Saturday morning, in the presence of around 70 Bards and a large gathering of the general public.
The Bards, headed by the Grand Bard Mr Mick Paynter, were welcomed by the Mayor of Camelford Rob Rotchell, who spoke in both Cornish and English, and who was accompanied by members of the town council.
After robing in the Methodist Church and a procession took place through the town to the park led by marshals, Mike Millard and Tim Hambly of Launceston and by pipers Merv Davey and Robin Homes.
Mr Paynter, who spoke in both languages, said the Gorsedd were grateful for the Mayor's kind words and his warm welcome to the Bards attending Camelford, which for them "is a most important and cherished place."
"Certainly, we are happy to be here in this town, linked so strongly as it is to the story of Arthur, the scene of crucial events in our history and so comfortable and secure in its Cornish identity," he said.
