BETWEEN Dawes House and the turning for 'Bangors Tip' you may have noticed a number of brown/white square patches across the valley. NCDC who own the land, part of Pennygillam Industrial estate, have been testing the ground for past contamination. This issue has know been dealt with.
The green flat stretch of land from the far left to behind the trees will be the final phase of industrial development for Pennygillam Industrial Estate. As it is a level site and fits well with the adjacent industrial estate it could be suggested that there are few issues for concern.
However, South Petherwin Parish Council, at its last parish meeting raised its concerns about the following planning application: '2008/01885, construction of engineered fill to enable the levelling of industrial plots and one and two of the new extension to Pennygillam Industrial Estate, Bangors Road South Petherwin.'
A number of councillors aired their views concerning the planning application. It was felt that the present Civic Amenity site should be joined with the new industrial site before any building planning applications are made.
Between the two sites is a small valley with a water culvert, which, it was suggested, could be in-filled. This would make best use of the two sites. The new industrial site is a number of feet above the present civic amenity site.
Councillors felt that if a new civic amenity site were to be developed on the ' new Pennygillam extenstion,' then the old site would make an ideal split level site allowing the public to drop waste into the containers instead of lifting the waste into them.
It was decided by the Parish Council that a site meeting should be called to address this issue with NCDC and made the following comment.
"The Parish Council request a site meeting to ascertain whether the best use is being made of this restricted site. It is the opinion of the parish council that to make the best use of this site it should be connected to the existing Bangors Waste Ammenity Site."
County Councillor Neil Burden commented: that "he would strongly support the parish council" and saw this as the "golden opportunity to join the two sites together."
