CAMELFORD Town Band has received a funding boost from the Comic Relief Community Cash Grant.
The band, which practices at Camelford Methodist Church on Fridays, previously applied for funding from the Comic Relief Community Cash Grant. To their surprise, the band not only received the grant, but the panel have doubled the money.
This money will allow the band to purchase new equipment, and will also provide a big boost to the junior band.
A spokesperson from Camelford Town Band told the Post: “What an exciting time for Camelford Town Band! As an unsponsored band, we depend entirely on fundraising events, engagements and generous donations from the public. Every now and then, there is a real need for funding that goes way beyond our day-to-day running.”
Camelford Town Band not only has a senior band, but also a training band too. This means that double the funds are needed to ensure the band is maintained and is able to grow at the speed in which they are.
The spokesperson continued: “We owe a massive thanks to the voluntary tutors that run this amazing group of learners. As with everything, there is a continuous need for replacement, repair and improvement. With funds only generated through hard work and dedication, we are thankful for the occasional, very generous helping hand.
“We were blown away by the recent grant provided by the Comic Relief Community Cash Grant and awarded by the Cornwall Community Foundation. Not only did they approve our application, but they doubled it! With such a massive donation, the youth band now have endless opportunities.
“With the prospect of new music, necessary accessories and much more, we cannot wait for our learner band to become a stronger and more prominent feature in our town.”
Any budding musicians or those interested in learning a brass instrument, Camelford’s learner band can be found every Friday in Camelford Methodist Church at 6.45pm.
