To celebrate National Young Farmers week club members from all over the local area have been busy creating bale displays. This year’s theme was ‘Back British Farming’, to promote the amazing work British farmers do.

Callington Young Farmers have created Claudia the Cow out of bales. Claudia can be viewed on the side of Saltash Road. The club are asking anyone who goes past to take a photograph and use #claudiathecow to show their support for British farmers.

Launceston Young Farmers’ creation is a pile of 15 bales which have ‘Back British Farming’ painted onto them. Their artwork can be seen near Bodmin Moore Services, along the A30.

Bradworthy

On Wednesday, September 12, Bradworthy YFC had there annual general meeting with Tom Nancekivell, Karen Cawsey and Caitlin Williams stepping down as chairman, secretary and treasurer. Passing it onto the next team. Dan Heard, Alice Wyness and Heidi Horn were wished the best of luck.

Here’s a look back at what a successful year Bradworthy YFC has had...

“With last year having less than 10 members to now this year having well over 100 the club has definitely grown from strength to strength.

“We have had so many highlights from the year it would be hard to list them all, but some being panto, tractor run and tour de bath tub.

“This year for the first time in about 30 years we won our group round of pantomime. This was a huge achievement for the club and individuals, with people trying this which was outside of their comfort zone. Our pantomime was ‘Snow White and the Brad’ry boys’ to which we got plenty of chuckles from! We held a re-run of the event to show the local community what our panto was all about, and raised £1,052.26 for The British Heart Foundation. The same week we were awarded the ‘Club of the month’ by National YFC! We all very proud to be part of Bradworthy YFC.

“Our tractor run we held in August in memory of Ed ward, raising money for Pete’s dragon. We had 114 tractors attend the tractor run where they did a 28 mile route around the local area, followed by a BBQ, band and bar in the evening. We are very proud to say that the event raised over £7,000 to Pete’s Dragon Charity.

“Within the same week, we then had our Charity ‘Tour De Bath Tub’, something very different for us as we fancied a challenge…with Devon young farmers and national young farmers celebrating there 90 years we decided to do a 90 mile bike ride around the area. However, there was a twist, we thought why not add a bathtub to the bike! We finished the day in Holsworthy show raising £6,079.99 for the British heart foundation.

“In total this year Bradworthy YFC has raised £14,455.44 for charity!

“After two years without our foam party, we came back with a bang, we certainly haven’t lost our reputation too throw a pretty awesome foam party as well as other village hall parties throughout the year. One thing we have been able to do as a club throughout Covid was our club sheep which was a real success with seven members taking part and raising £4,500 for the club, with this year coming 20 members taking part so the club has quite a flock now! Along with charity skittles tournaments within tarka, pub nights, club socials, club visits, beetle drives taking part in county sports and many more activities we have certainly had a fun filled but busy year!”
