PEOPLE in Camelford were able to learn how to make sturdy, reusable bags at a workshop held in the town as part of Fun Week.

On Thursday, May 31, Kim Ross held a Morsbags making workshop in Needle and Thread in Camelford, as part of the many events taking place during Fun Week, from Saturday, May 26 to Saturday, June 2.

Morsbags are reusable, handmade bags distributed for free to people to sway consumers away from the purchase of single-use plastic bags, which end up in the oceans and can be detrimental to wildlife. Kim began ‘Camelford Carriers’ recently, and saw Fun Week as the perfect opportunity to spread the message and get more people involved.

Kim said: “It went really well! We had people of all ages turn up — some experienced sewers and some who had never used a machine before.

“We made about eight bags in total and everyone went away happy. We have already been asked if it could become a more regular event, so I’m really pleased!”

Thanks have been extended to Wendy from Needle and Thread in Camelford for loaning her sewing room and machines for the event.
